October 14, 2004 MEADVILLE: Environmental Protection Northwest Regional Director Kelly Burch today announced that DEP has issued a construction permit to the Petroleum Valley Regional Water Authority to pave the way for construction of a new water distribution system in northeastern Butler County and northwestern Armstrong County. Rendell administration officials will visit Petrolia, Butler County to make a major announcement regarding a Public Water System for Petrolia area. More than 900 residents of northeastern Butler County have been on bottled water for nearly three years, after the discovery that their water wells were contaminated due to historical industrial waste disposal. Environmental Protection Northwest Regional Director Kelly Burch today encouraged residents in northeastern Butler County and northwestern Armstrong County to take advantage of a public availability session February 10th regarding the Apple Road cleanup segment of the Bear Creek Area Chemical Site.
DEP Project Manager Chuck Tordella will be at the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Co. Social Hall at 200 Argyle St., just off Route 268 in Petrolia, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 10 to meet individually with community residents to informally discuss recent and upcoming site activities and related water issues.
